Grade 7 Social Studies - Anishinabe Dodems

In our Grade 7 Social Studies class, we are beginning the year on Diverse Peoples with a focus on three First Nations groups. I try to always keep an eye on Citizenship and Canadian Identity. Pictured is the student work on the Anishinabe Dodems (clans). These charts display the structure of the Anishinabe tribe, as their people were divided into Dodems by skill and responsibility. Each Dodem helped the overall tribe. Students were then asked to reflect on where they thought they would fit into the Dodems based on their own personal skills, provide a personal example showing why this was a fit for them, and then do some critical thinking to offer a new Dodem (clan) that did not exist at this time, but would be beneficial to our modern world today.
